Good news, you can now use Meal Entertainment for some takeaway and home delivery until 31 March 2021
Want to save on meals from your favourite restaurants? With the Meal Entertainment benefit you could save hundreds of dollars each year.
What expenses does Meal Entertainment cover?
Ordinarily your Maxxia Wallet card can be used to pay for your restaurant and bistro bills whenever you're dining out with others. Obviously if restaurants and pubs are closed, like they are now during COVID-19, you're unable to do this.
The good news is the ATO is now allowing some takeaway and home delivered meals for our Meal Entertainment customers until the end of the next FBT year which is 31 March, 2021.
Until then, you can use your Maxxia Wallet card for takeaway and home delivered meals when purchased from restaurants that would normally accept your Maxxia Wallet card, if you were able to dine in.
This includes some meals ordered through delivery platforms such as Deliveroo, Menulog and Uber Eats, where they deliver for the permitted restaurants.
FAQs on the new takeaway and home delivery provisions:
Can I use my Maxxia Wallet card for take-away, home delivery etc.?
Yes, the ATO has temporarily relaxed taxation rules around Meal Entertainment and is now allowing takeaway and home delivered meals.
How does it work?
Your Maxxia Wallet card can now be used for takeaway/delivery as long as the supplier was an allowable Meal Entertainment supplier as of 1 April 2020.
Please note the change will allow takeaway and home delivered meals to be purchased from restaurants that would normally accept your Maxxia Wallet card, if you were able to dine in.
Can I use my Maxxia Wallet card with delivery services?
Yes. This includes some meals ordered through delivery platforms such as Deliveroo, Menulog and Uber Eats, where they deliver for the permitted restaurants.
I have used my Maxxia Wallet card to purchase takeaway using Uber Eats previously but it has declined or the transaction was taken from my Living Expenses benefit, what has changed?
In line with the recent announcement by the ATO we have enabled these delivery services to now come through as Meal Entertainment transactions.
When does this change come into effect?
This change is effective 1 April 2020 and will be applicable until 31 March 2021.
